Ayuso's government attacks Montero and the debt forgiveness for Catalonia: "It is an unprecedented scandal"

"An unprecedented scandal in the history of democracy, from which all Spaniards lose." This is how Isabel Díaz Ayuso's government has described the cancellation of 17 billion euros of debt to Catalonia announced this Monday by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero.
In the words of Rocío Albert, Minister of Economy and Finance of the Community of Madrid, to the media, "what the Sanchismo intends with this announcement is to pass on the debts of many years of independence to all Spaniards."
Albert stressed that this measure is intended to ensure that the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, "remains in Moncloa" and stressed that, with the debt relief, "the only ones who win are the separatists." "All Spaniards lose, as do the people of Madrid, Móstoles and the entire population," he added.
This Wednesday will be a key day for the Autonomous Communities. The Ministry of Finance will propose to them in the Council of Fiscal and Financial Policy, which will begin at 4:00 p.m., the forgiveness of up to 83,252 million euros of their debt , which in the case of Madrid will amount to 8,644 million euros. Andalusia and Catalonia would benefit the most from this approach , adding up to more than 43% of the forgiveness between the two.
The PP Communities have already announced that they will vote against the debt relief . However, the Government will need the vote of only one region to approve its proposal, since the Ministry of Finance has half of the votes in the CPFF. This support could even come from Catalonia or another region that agrees with the debt relief, although Junts has left the door open to voting against: "Don't let them sell us a pig in a poke . "
Once the process for the autonomous regions has been completed, the debt forgiveness will have to be materialised later through an organic law, which will be submitted to a vote in Congress and the Senate , where the PP has an absolute majority and could delay the process over time. The organic law assumes that the Government needs an absolute majority in Parliament.
María Jesús Montero said on Monday that she hopes to have this organic law approved before the end of the year. "Hopefully, and if everything goes according to plan, we can have the law approved before the end of the year. We are going to push it forward as quickly as possible and, therefore, if we can count on the political groups sharing this idea, then we will have the capacity to approve it as soon as possible," said the Minister of Finance.
